Update May 17, 2023 – Our work on this initiative is finished!

After the school reopening, the septic system was repaired and the computer room temporarily repurposed as a classroom. The electricity and water supply are now adequate.

Our field leads, Candelaria and Gregorio, spent a lot of time identifying priorities with the principal and teachers. Over many months, various other options were discussed and considered for the best use of the remaining funds in the initiative.

In March 2023, the principal and staff decided that the remaining funds would be best used by installing bars on windows to secure the computer room, and purchasing as many laptops as our funds would allow. Gregorio proceeded to facilitate these purchases and installations, as well as arrange to refurbish 14 of the old computers that the school owned. This work was completed in early May 2023.

On May 17, 2023, Kathy Coster and Penny Pattison attended a full school assembly to celebrate the contributions of ICO to the New School. This was followed by a visit to the computer room, which the principal says is a huge source of pride and benefit for the students and the school. We were gratified to see the students demonstrating that they already have a good grasp of technology, which will be crucial as they grow up and join the workforce.
