Victoria Community General

Victoria is the capital city of the province of British Columbia and is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, in the Pacific Ocean. The city has a population of 86,000, while the metropolitan area of Greater Victoria has a population of almost 400,000 making it the 15th most populous Canadian urban region.

Known as “The Garden City”, Victoria is a popular tourist destination. The thriving technology sector has risen to be its largest revenue-generating private industry. Victoria is in the top twenty of world cities for quality-of-life, according to Numbeo. The city has a large non-local student population and is also popular with retirees, who come to enjoy the temperate and usually snow-free climate of the area as well as the usually relaxed pace of the city.

ICO’s business office is located in Victoria and the ICO Victoria Community has the largest membership within ICO, many who are also involved as pro-bono ICO Team Members.

These team members may provide support to the organization as a whole and/or to their Initiative. Collaboration opportunities like the “Work Bee” and “Community Meeting” allow for people to get together as friends and to work on various projects. The community group has also been involved in a number of social endeavours in the area.

The ICO Victoria Community Representative is Tessa Cleveland. You can read more about her and the Council of ICO Communities here: The Council of ICO Communities or contact her at: tessacleveland@innovativecommunities.org.
