As of June 06, 2020 there are officially 2,600 confirmed cases of COVID-19 throughout Kenya (from cumulative tests of 94,507), with 706 recovered patients and 83 related deaths. We fear that the actual numbers are likely much higher. There is currently a mandatory, country-wide curfew imposed between 9pm and 4am. Public gatherings are prohibited, and persons visiting a supermarket or any open-air market are required to wear a protective mask that covers the mouth and nose. Users of public or private transport are also required to wear a protective mask.

When the children were sent home from schools we realized that the mothers would need to feed the kids that normally eat at school. In early April we decided to quickly make sure that the families had enough food for weeks to come before shops and or markets closed or in case of a food shortage. Jennifer and Mary (our first sponsored child, now in final year university) spent a week organising the mothers to come with Mary and help her bringing the food to the homes (we spent $1,370 from our own personal initiative contributions and named it the Covid relief fund). Included in this post are 2 pictures of families receiving the food. We may need to provide them with more food in the near future, especially since the boarding school students are still at home whereas they were normally being fed at the schools. All in all 41 children and the mothers received the food.

With our own donated school money we also had to rent a room for 3 of the boarding students because there is no place on the floor at home where they would normally sleep due to other siblings sleeping there.

The children are still at home and are awaiting (as are we) the government decision on when to reopen the schools. The latest on this is that that schools will reopen on 01 September, we will let you know once this is confirmed.
