Nepal Irrigation Project Update – August 2022

The transplanting of rice from seedlings was completed in July in the village of Lahachowk. The seedlings are kept in a water depth of 2 to 3 cm in very close quarters for 15 to 21 days after which the seedlings are transplanted. The transplanted rice is placed about 20 cm apart in 3 cm of water. This year sinkholes appeared in some fields causing a loss of seedlings but also difficulty in maintaining a water level to ensure healthy plants. We are hoping for no more disruptions and a bountiful yield of rice for the villagers of Lahachowk. Pictured is one of the sinkholes. Harvesting generally happens around mid October.
