East Africa Permaculture Update - Feb. 2021

Kisii Ndogo is a small village in the Molo region of Kenya. The people are extremely poor. Most of the residents lost their homes in the 2007 election violence. They have been relocated here. There is no land to practice farming. And, no water, not even a bore hole. To access water, you have to walk almost 15-20 km. The village is around 300 in population. Innovative Communities initiated a Permaculture project on a ridiculously small site, just 30 by 75 meters.

Together with the community we implemented permaculture. Utilizing this tiny space our goal is to teach the community the techniques of permaculture. In the rainy season there is enough rain. However, in the dry season it is difficult to get water for irrigation. During the rainy season everything is green. This project is helping the people immensely. Right now, in February 2021 we are in a prolonged drought season. Now we are preparing for the next planting. We are expecting rain next month! In Kisii Ndogo the major problem is access to water.
