Nepal Education Update - Fall 2019

The following is a report from ICO Nepal member Binod Koirala.

ICO is pleased to support computer labs for Saraswoti Tika Secondary School situated 45 minutes drive from Pokhara. The school has become an example for many other government schools of the region. In the last 4 years, the number of students has grown from 300 to 1,100. The number of students is increasing every year. Many parents of that areas are changing their children’s school from private to this government/community one. Every teacher from the school must admit their children into a government school. The school also has a disabled section, where about 20 intellectually challenged students are staying and getting life skill education and training. There are 2 full time computer teachers and resources for maintenance of computers. ICO partnered up with Fishtail Rotary and private donors from New Zealand. ICO has been approached by another school seeking support for a computer lab and the ICO team in Nepal will evaluate and if it is approved will be in the spring when the lab is completed.
