Nepal Fundraising Update 2018

Nepal Fundraising Update 2018

ICO Nepal was the recipient of 3 fundraisers in the 2018 year. The first fundraiser was the 12th annual Brad and Jen BBQ. The event raises money for the Nepal ICO projects and the Campbell River Food Bank. 123 people attended the event and enjoyed a night of merriment, great food, bocce, washer toss and an opportunity to meet other caring people. $5019.30 was raised (including the bottle returns).

The 2nd fundraising event was the ICO Nepal garage sale which raised $1601 for the Women’s Health and Irrigation projects. The left-over items were sent to the Restore, Women’s Transition Centre, Salvation Army Thrift Store and the Hospital Thrift Shop. The event was an opportunity to converse with folks who have been to Nepal and hear their stories of the great people and beauty of the country. A great side note was a Nepalese person that dropped by who did not know that Campbell River held a small Nepalese community. We were able to connect her with the community and she was able to celebrate a huge Nepalese festival with her fellow Nepalese.

The 3rd fundraiser consisted of 3 fair trade shows in which ICO members Brad McLoughlin and Jennifer Wade were selling fair trade items. The items for sale are from a variety of great products that support great initiatives in Nepal. Among the products are scarves and bags made by a Women’s Co-op, blind/deaf weavers, single women and women forming a skills training centre. Brad and Jen will be donating 100% of the sales to ICO Irrigation, Education and Women’s health projects.
