Guinea is a country with a reluctant expertise in pandemics. A new ebola outbreak was declared in Guinea this past weekend but in the years since the last outbreak, a vaccine was developed. United Nations Guinea tweeted that the first flight carrying experts and sanitary equipment arrived on Monday. Prime Minister Ibrahima Kassory Fofana tweeted “No panic, let’s respect the sanitary instructions. Ebola will be defeated again.”
During the 2013-2016 epidemic that left thousands dead, teaching was put on hold and the Kobian Matoto Bountouraby Sylla School served as an education centre. If the school closes in the near future, the school building could be transformed into a vaccination hub. We will continue to support our school staff if the ebola outbreak leads to an interruption in teaching activities.
