This initiative aims to support the education of promising students who face multiple barriers to accessing education in Vietnam. The goal of this initiative is to provide more career options and social and life skills to young people in Vietnam, through education and opportunities to connect with peers, volunteers and mentors from within and outside of Vietnam. Some anticipated outcomes for students include receiving an education, having increased self-confidence, independence, life skills, self-awareness, a supportive network, and the opportunity to give back and support others through volunteering. Although our priority is to provide academic support, we believe in a holistic approach to education, which can include safe housing and counselling support, as post-secondary students leave their hometowns to follow their studies.
The original goal of this initiative was to focus on post-secondary education. The chosen students were identified working with trusted local organizations and clear criteria. It is now clear that not all promising students have equal access to elementary and secondary education. By identifying ‘bright sparks’ at a younger age and providing small amounts to support their school costs, these future leaders will be better prepared to succeed at post-secondary level. The scope of this initiative is now expanded to identify, support and encourage students as they move towards secondary school graduation.
