San Pedro Education Update – June 2025

San Pedro June 2025

Chaquijya

The Chaquijya schools have just ended a busy and successful first semester. (The Guatemalan  school year runs from January to June.)

1. The senior high school received a rare delivery of desperately needed desks, tables and chairs from the Ministry of Education— for use by both the school and community.

2. This month all 42 students in the senior high school enjoyed an exciting day trip to the beaches and ports of Puerto San Pedro, Escuintla. Because many students would never have been out of their own department, this trip was planned to expand their knowledge of their own country —away from their high mountain Western Highlands department to the hot and humid plains of the Pacific Coast.

3. Five top senior high students were chosen to attend a multi-day Camp Intercop—to hear speakers, exchange ideas and experiences with other top rural students, to take part in sports and social activities.

4. All 17 final year students were successful in their end-of-term exams.  They were celebrated by staff, parents, and community members at a ceremony where they were presented with their certificates.

San Pedro

The university students supported by our San Pedro based worker all completed their terms successfully, will now have a week-long break, and will return to their final university term in July.
