Construction of the first earthquake-proof house has progressed through the summer. Delays have been encountered due to rains (we cannot manufacture blocks when soil is wet) and due to the impact of COVID on the availability of skilled tradesmen. The structure is complete up to the window lintel and upper portions of the walls. The roof will be completed in the coming months.

As the HICSEB construction technique is new to east Africa, the first building is being constructed on the grounds of the Kagondo trade school, which is operated by the Kolping Society of Tanzania. This has enabled Salvatory Kahwa, the field project manager, and his tradesmen to learn very quickly. Leaders and residents of the village of Nyamuhunga have been involved with the project, so they are ready for when the second house is constructed in their village.
