Community Support
This account is to be used for expenses that do not fall under the mandates of the other Pop Atz'iaq projects. In some cases they are expenses that the family of a scholarship student is faced with when that student can no longer contribute to the family income. This could be classified as "living expenses for the family." (This would mainly cover the cost of food.) In other cases they involve scholarships for primary and pre-primary children whose circumstances would otherwise not allow them to attend school. We have one child who is blossoming in primary school, spending every available minute at home doing homework. This child would otherwise assist her mother on her rounds of washing clothes for large families in the neighbourhood, with no hope of attending school.
In some cases, we help outstanding graduates of the Pop Atz'iaq scholarship program to go on to university. As well, some of these graduates are committed to community development projects, that will also be funded through this account. Some youth groups are already applying and we are convinced of the benefits that these projects bring to the communities.
